Looks like this will be available to watch from tomorrow. Odd but nice that Netflix are reviving old Nickelodeon shows like Invader Zim and Rocko's Modern Life.

$3million for Tumblr is insane. I'm pleased that Tumblr continues to live on and with new ownership and I really hope there's lots of love and attention. But I'd rather not see the two combine. Tumblr's barrier to entry is really low and serves a slightly different purpose to Wordpress. Bringing them together doesn't make much sense to me. Wordpress itself should look to better compete with Medium.com.

My career took me through a period of working with Wordpress and despite its flexibility, ecosystem and popularity it's not a tool I'd like to work with again. Some of my original attempts at blogging used Wordpress and it never ended well. Despite my own thoughts, it's definitely popular.

I follow a few Tumblr blogs and have had my own for years and recently set one up for 1 Thing A Week as another outlet.

The experience of curating individual posts is really nice on Tumblr and influenced how I've approached this site in some way. Dropping from a value of $1.1billion to less than $20million is crazy. Flickr, another Yahoo! aquisition, were acquired by SmugMug last year and while there's been no major disruption you can see attention has been spent where it was needed most. If the same happens to Tumblr, great.

Money continues to pour into football and it's pretty sickening to see we're talking about it in units of billions now when the 'basic' version of a shirt costs upwards of £50 and easily surpasses the £60 mark for the top teams.

For a number of seasons in the past 10 years or so there have been very few teams that have forgone sponsorship and I only know of AS Roma to have featured sponsorless shirts in recent years. Barcelona gave in for charitable causes about 10 years ago and this season, Paddy Power trolled football fans by having Huddersfield run out in a ludicrous kit only to then announce it was a marketing stunt and they've decided to 'unsponsor' the kit.

International shirts have so far escaped sponsorship, most likely because FIFA want total control over who sponsors what and where that money goes.

Would be nice to see regulations changed to reduce any advertising to around 10cm² and much higher up on the shirt.

Working with dates and times are a nightmare when you're programming. Daylight savings should just be put in the bin.

I first saw this proposal by Dave Gorman as part of his Modern Life is Goodish show:

One correction I'd make is that New Years Day(s) should not just be a floating day otherwise there's no rotation so you'll never have your birthday on a weekend.
