Ok, this is really really cool. It looks impossible and depends on a few things like the complexity of the background and the accuracy of the depth map but it does work. While I found it a bit hit and miss, with my iPhone 8 Plus I was able to get some great results:

If I have a bit more time, I'd be all over this. You get all the parts to build a mobile phone and there will be plenty of resources to help you code games and apps. There's even a tools kit which gives you everything you need to be able to put it together and get it working, if you don't have them already. I suck at soldering, so I'd want more practice before embarking on a project like this. Really need to finish of that Konstructor kit I was given ages ago...
