Nick Heer points out that there were once grand plans for macOS widgets:

At WWDC 2007, when Steve Jobs announced the “sweet solution” for iPhone apps, Dashcode was envisioned as a way to build those web apps. The idea was that developers could take their existing Mac OS X widget and convert it to work as an iPhone web app.

I do not remember this from the iPhone launch at all. I do remember Apple talking about new features for the web which gave you the ability to run a website as if it was an app. It really looked like PWAs were going to take off, but there was a real clamour for native apps and Apple opened the floodgates a year later.

If this is true, sounds like a Pro feature to me. Love the simplicity of this demo. if you have a Face ID iPhone, open this photo and turn your phone upside down. That's what the next generation of iPhone might look like.

Sony first talked about it's Vision-S concepts in 2020 and 18 months later they're looking to take it all more seriously.

What strikes me the most about this concept series of cars is the interior. I'm looking for a new car at the moment and most interiors are awful. There's no other way to put it. Sony really have something with theirs.

Although, I'm not a fan of exposed cup holders in the centre console. The best interiors have them hidden.

These anecdotes are exactly what I'd expect to hear from a program like this:

Data aside, researchers also wanted to collect anecdotes about the concrete effects on people's lives. One recipient said the assistance had allowed them to move out of a crowded house, others to simply afford rent and pay off bills. A mother reported being able to afford a nicer car in which to drive her children to school, making her feel like she was taking better care of them. Some were able to enjoy “small luxuries,” like taking a first vacation in years, or making small changes in lifestyle: A dive bartender said they could now work at a restaurant, doing “safer, earlier, hour-style bartending.”

Every time I hear about Universal Basic Income, it just sounds like a no-brainer to me. Better to distribute a bit of money to everyone so they can actually improve their lives than letting a few hoard all the money and hope that it trickles down.
