Google testing new double-tap gesture on back of Pixel phones

Thinking about this from an iOS perspective, would this be any faster than swiping up/down to get to Control Centre and launching the camera from there? Maybe a little, but trying it just now, I don't hold my phone in a way that would allow me to comfortably double tap the centre.

Despite access to the camera through Control Centre, I still see plenty of users that press the home button, swipe to the screen with the Camera app and launch it from there.

Not sure how easy it would be to discover and if it's something that gets triggered inadvertently then that would be annoying.

I'd prefer a dedicated camera button.
