An emoji for your thoughts
Since I first started using a Mac, I don't remember the last time I was envious of something on Windows. Emojis in particular were awful on Microsoft's OS, so flat and blocky. Oddly sized and because of them, I ended up amending Apple's emojis into JPEGs so that I could standardise the layout and appearance across different platforms.
These new emojis from Microsoft are just so fun, the team behind it all deserve a raise 👏.

No one likes ads. So let's do something about it.
Nice approach from Unsplash here and some good examples of traditional ads versus what we see on websites today.
The examples above are all pretty dens with the information they want to convey. Cramming it all into such a small space is a far cry from the full-page print ads of the past.

Racist attacks on Black England players spark widespread backlash
I sometimes find it hard to support the England national team, but I admire them for the morals and their actions over the past few weeks and months.
In contrast, the leaders of the United Kingdom, continue to be a complete embarrassment to us all.

the Infinite Ugly Scroll
Nick Here:
The galling thing is that this strategy works — not for users, of course, but on an entirely commercial level it works.
I love working with and on the web, but the web is broken.Commercially, it's thriving and people are making a lot of money. It does feel like a lot of that is done immorally at the moment. Facebook even being allowed to buy WhatsApp and Instagram feels like an insane move. Google and YouTube's relationship doesn't feel so bad but the sheer volume of ads right now is slowly turning my the other way.

Google Plus launched ten years ago this week
Only 10 years ago, it feels like a lot longer has passed in between.
It's predecessor (of sorts), Google Wave had some unbelievable features for it's time. Real time collaboration for one, but Google Plus had little to set it apart from the competition. Maybe it's integrations with Google Photos and the ability to create tighter groups, or Circles?
The only thing I miss about Google Plus is the +1 extension for Chrome. Your 'vote' wasn't tied to a specific social media post, but to the URI.
And now I have an idea for another side project...
