I'm not really sure if I watched Scrubs at the time it first aired but I remember being aware of it in the mid-2000s when Green Wing was recommended to me and pitched as the UK version of Scrubs. Looking at the Wikipedia entry for the ABC1 TV channel that was available for 3 years in the UK, it seems like I may have caught most of the first 5-6 seasons through that.
But no matter when it was that I got into watching Scrubs, I've been a fan for a long time and the Fake Doctors, Real Friends podcast has been a lot of fun to listen to during lockdown.
I had to delay listening to it as I wanted to watch along but nowhere in the UK had the show available to stream. It finally became available on All 4 and I started to watch an episode followed by a podcast each day until I'd caught up. From around episode 12 of season1 I've been following along in real time and it's been a lot of fun.
Lots of stories from not only the hosts but their guests and some great insight into the show, how it was put together and the industry at large. I expected a short hiatus between seasons, but I'm happy to report that didn't happen for the show between season 1 and 2.
I'm not sure if I did watch every episode of Scrubs seasons 1-8 but I feel like I saw most of them. I don't remember ABC1 showing them in any particular order and the episodes were shown multiple times a day so even if they were scheduled in the right order it's likely I missed a few episodes due to studying, working or socialising. I am pretty sure I haven't seen all of 9 which had a very different cast and wasn't anywhere near as good as the 'original'.
Having re-watched all of season 1 now, I was surprised that to see so many cameos and to see some of the story lines which I assumed were later on in the shows' run. Brendan Fraser's appearance in two episodes for example, I thought came much later on but it's right there towards the end of the first season.
If you're a fan of Scrubs, give it a listen. As I said, you can catch up on All 4 if you're in the UK, I just hope it stays there for a long time because at a rate of two episodes a week, it's going to take more than 2 years to get through the entire 9 seasons but when Zach and/or Donald are working again who knows how long it could take to get through it.
